Removing Idols

He did what was right in the sight of the Lord.
2 Kings 22:2

Here, King Josiah's faithfulness is detailed in ridding Judah and Jerusalem of idolatry. Unlike other kins, Josiah "turned to the Lord with all his heart, with all his soul, and with all his might, according to all the law of Moses" (23:25b)

We would expect that such zeal would please God and that Josiah would have a peaceful end of life. But he was killed in battle by Pharaoh Neco (23:29). Josiah's son Jehoahaz, reigned only three months before being carried away and confined until his death (23:31 - 34). Josiah was spared, through death, from seeing the destruction of Jerusalem (22:20).

Removing the idols of one's life must be done not for reward but because it is the right thing to do. One's reward will eventually come, but not always in one's lifetime.

Action Step:
Consider and remove idols from your life.

Faithful God, give us the zeal to destroy the idols in our lives. Amen
